Therapy (counselling) is providing a safe place for a person to confidentially work through issues of the past and present, developing a new healthy future.
bmerri provides a range of approaches that suit the individual (couple) according to their needs.
Therapeutic models may include Person Centred Counselling, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Trauma Therapy using EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing), Play Therapy CBT Hypnotherapy, or Narrative Therapy.
bmerri is led by Bill Merrington. Bill was formerly a forensic scientist who then worked in the Church of England as priest working in a range of settings including city and country parishes, hospitals, prisons and universities. Bill specialised in supporting parents who had been bereaved of children. He has a doctorate from Warwick University in psychology and an honorary doctorate from Bournemouth University for his work in education and supporting students in crisis. Bill has taught in various universities teaching loss issues, crisis management, suicide prevention and building resilience. Bill served on the board of a number of organisations including various schools and the Association of Christian Counsellors who made him an honorary life member.
Bill has written a number of books on loss for children and adults. They can be found on the website of the publisher Kevin Mayhew.
Bill has been a supervisor of counsellors for many years. He particular has experience in leading reflective peer groups, safe places where together, individuals can be supported to reflect upon their work and personal situations.
Bill has supported and guided individuals in a range of work
contexts including universities, schools and hospitals.
